I believe in the power of remembering. The power of what it means to return to a moment in time that holds value, that holds meaning. The tragedy is that I forget most things. I've thought for a while of what it would look like to document each year of my life in ways that don't rely on my fading memory. While sifting through 2009's images, I found so many beautiful ones. I now know that they must be saved from a miserable and certain death. Death by hard drive.

I think I've found a solution for myself.book cover ideaII.jpg

I have decided and committed to document each year of my life in pictures starting with scenes from 2009 (and a few from 2008.) My goal is to have a coffee table book made each year for myself to solidify and memorialize my favorite moments in space and time from the pervious year. Carl Was Here 2009 is what this year's book will be called. Our favorite images from the year's travels, scenes and the beauty that life throws our way will make its way into the pages of this book. Most of these images are "between the chapters" of this last year. This means that the images won't be from weddings or photo sessions. Instead they'll be from the off days that I have experienced between photo assignments during 2009.

I've shared the idea of Carl Was Here with some friends and family and have had an overwhelmingly positive response. Many have expressed that they would love a copy of Carl Was Here, 2009 for themselves. If that's you, send us an email and we'll send you info on how you can get a copy of our 80 page coffee table book for yourself. Thank you so much to those of you who have supported this! We're stoked to get this yearly project rolling!

We've also created a website for Carl Was Here and will be launching it very soon. Many people ask us if we sell prints of the images we take and the answer is: We do now! Once the site launches you'll be able to sift through the different places we've been and hopefully enjoy the beauty in life that we've seen so far. I'm stoked to get our art out there and to a place where people can tangibly enjoy it.

The website is www.carlwashere.com Keep checking back, it'll be launching very soon!

Here's a shot from our flight out of Burbank, CA on Wednesday. This was the bumpiest flight of my life! There were even a few screams in the cabin on this one.

Yesterday we had a pretty amazing family session in Malibu with our friends Ryan and Sarah Dobson. In the midst of shooting I looked up and saw this.  simplicity

This image reminds me of Water Landing, a track off of Third Eye Blind's new album Ursa Major. You should check it out and listen to it when you fly. It's a good rush :)
